About Us
Deep Roots, Bright Futures

Our Story
St. Mark's Child Development Center is more than a preschool; we are a ministry born from a desire to serve families. Our story began around 1969, shortly after the historic merger that created the United Methodist Church. Under the leadership of St. Mark’s first appointed Black minister, the Reverend Clarence E. Strickland, our congregation committed itself to supporting the Clanton Park community. Out of that vision, this Center was established—growing alongside our Senior Choir and Scouting programs as a cornerstone of the church.
Today, over 50 years later, we remain an integral part of the St. Mark’s UMC ministry. While our history is long, our standards are modern. We are proud to hold a 5-Star License from the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education—the highest rating available. This distinction reflects our sustained commitment to low teacher-to-student ratios, educated staff, and a safe, nurturing environment. With many of our teachers having been with us for over a decade, we offer your child not just an education, but a stable, loving second home.
Health & Safety
Safety Standards You Can Trust
Your child’s well-being is our first priority. As a holder of North Carolina’s 5-Star Center License, St. Mark’s adheres to the strictest state guidelines for health, sanitation, and building safety. We also have a Sanitation Classification of Superior, which is the highest available. We maintain rigorous cleanliness protocols and ensure secure supervision at all times, so you can have total peace of mind while your child focuses on learning and play.
